Armed Neighbor Chases Down Texas Mass Shooter

A Sunday church service in South Texas turned into a massacre after a gunman dressed in black opened fire upon unsuspecting victims, killing 26.

The suspect was found dead following a chase from an armed civilian and another person driving a vehicle. The armed responder reportedly fired at the suspect, but at this time is unsure whether or not he made contact. Officials say it is possible the deceased suspect died from a self-inflicted gun shot.

NBC News reports an additional 20 people were wounded during the shooting.

The shooting comes roughly a month following a gun attack at a country music festival in Las Vegas. Once again, the headlines have quickly turned political, with calls for harsher gun control laws dominating social media and mainstream media reports. However, the Texas event showcased a very important difference.

During the shooting, the suspect was allegedly wearing “ballistic armor” and carrying a semi-automatic weapon. An armed neighbor responded to the incident carrying a rifle of his own. After the shooter fled the scene, he and another man pursued him while communicating with law enforcement. It took roughly 5 to 7 minutes for officers to arrive at the scene.

Despite the horrifying body count, the armed response undoubtedly prevented further loss of life. See why these citizens decided to take the matter into their own hands in the local news report below.
